Admission Information

An undergraduate degree, such as a Bachelor of Science, is typically pursued by students directly out of high school with no other post-secondary education experience. Students wishing to pursue an undergraduate degree in the Department of Physics and Astronomy can be admitted directly to the Faculty of Science and their program of choice. Our physics and astrophysics programs are almost always completed in four to five years.

Application Deadlines

Applications are accepted beginning in November of the year prior (e.g. November 2011 for fall 2012 admission) and continue until April 1.

Admission Requirements

To be admitted to the physics and astronomy degree program, you should have:

• A minimum 75.0% overall Grade 12 average.
• English 30, Pure Math 30, two science courses at the 30 level from Biology, Chemistry, Physics, or Math 31, and one other full credit 30 level course. (For information on high school course equivalents from provinces outside Alberta, visit the Admission Requirements page.)
• Advanced credit may also be issued to those students who present International Baccalaureate (IB), Advanced Placement (AP) or Post-Secondary credits. For more information please consult the prospective student website admission page.

International Students

Admission standards for International Students vary. International Students who are interested in studying at the University of Calgary should visit the International Students Undergraduate Admission page. Current international students studying at the University of Calgary are asked to contact the International Center.

Transfer and Open Studies (non-degree)

Mature, transferring and visiting students should consult the prospective student website or call the Recruitment and Admissions Office at (403) 220-6645 for specific admission requirements and more information.
